By Administrative Ordered dated March 16, 2020, Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals Mary Ellen Barbera revised court staffing to essential employees to be determined by each court's administrator. This rescinds her prior Order dated March 13, 2020, originally closing Maryland state courts closed to the public with limited exceptions from March 16, 2020 through April 3, 2020. With the new Administrative Order, courts remain closed through April 3, with the provisions of the prior order essentially remaining intact, but with further clarifications and limitations. All matters scheduled during that time will be rescheduled, unless falling within the emergency exceptions.
The administrative orders follow prior orders from the United States District Court and Prince George's County courts. The Maryland State Bar Association has created a web page available to the public with cumulative information regarding impacts to the judiciary and court closings.
